Golden Nuggets or Liquid Gold?
I attended a course this week. The content was great. It was run by a deep expert who could answer our participant questions effortlessly with real-life examples. She was exactly the right person to share this useful material with us all.
As I left the room at the end of the course, I noticed a discomfort. I didn’t think the learning was going to be sticky. We had been exposed to some insightful material, but we hadn’t got to play with it ourselves and land it in our world.
There was all this gold, but it felt solid, immovable and indigestible. I wanted to turn it into liquid, letting it flow to where it needed to settle and let it stick. Settle and stick to the places in my life that would benefit most from these golden nuggets I’d discovered. But, I wasn’t being guided by the expert any more and I was on my own without my fellow learners in the room.
It got me thinking about the work I do. Do I do enough to make my tools flow to where they need to settle? Do I do enough to make it sticky? Is it liquid gold?
I asked myself how I could dial-up the liquid gold stickiness of what I do. Why?
People who know me know that I’m on a bit of a mission to help every workplace become more flexible. Flexible in a way that works for everyone; a win-win for employer and employee. With that motivation, I’m always looking for ways to turn what I do into the best liquid gold possible.
So, with that in mind, here’s what I’m going to try next.
